SleepOn is a sleep monitoring app that analyzes the user’s sleep patterns as well as many of their daily activities. It creates visuals of the relationships between daily activities and the quality of the user’s nighttime sleep as recorded by the app. It involves a ring or a device that you wear on your fingertip all night that syncs up with the app on your phone.
After logging in, the user is asked to create a profile. The app measures various factors such as Resting Heart Rate (RHR) which is the number of heartbeats per minute at rest. It’s both a gauge of your heart health and a biomarker of aging, and it’s one of the simplest and best measures of your health. It also looks at AHI, which records the number of apnea and hypopnea episodes per hour of sleep supervision to analyze them and determine the degree of sleep apnea severity the user suffers from. The app also analyzes how much the user tosses and turns, which is an indication of the quality of their sleep cycle. Another function helps measure your “sleep debt”–the cumulative effects you will feel if you chronically don’t get enough sleep. The app also has a “sleep label” section which will help the user to record their daily activities and to have a thorough understanding of the impact of each activity on their sleep quality and habits.
This app, combined with the ring or fingertip device, provides a lot of data which seems to rival that provided by a sleep study. Wearing the ring or fingertip device all night seems to be a way to provide good data.
It’s expensive. Many don’t like that you have to wear something on your finger all night and complain that it’s uncomfortable.
